Understanding the Elderly
The goal was to design a product and service for elderlies after retirement. To understand our target group, we visited an elderly welfare facility, went hiking, called grandparents, and asked them to share their personal stories. We figured that retirees are willing to try new activities, but at the same time, they are reluctant to try them alone or with strangers.
Mystery (Hobby) Box
We devised a hobby subscription service that brings new activities to retirees directly to their familiar place - which reduces the fear of failing, connects new people, and has a health benefit.
Prototype
We developed and prototyped a calligraphy learning kit as the first hobby box. The service is '3 steps to hobby' - that it provides hobby learning in 3 stages with step-by-step instructions.
Service
We came up with the entire service process from registering the service to connecting the people after using the hobby box.
Conclusion
At the end, we discussed the role of different stakeholders and also envisioned other future hobby models for the expansion.
The most challenging part of this project was to find the target group from scratch and asked for permission to interview; but at the same time, it was the time when I started learning how to approach people friendly and ask them to share personal stories.
